First Impressions Matter: Front Door Fixes Buyers Notice

When buyers pull up to a home for the first time, they are already forming an opinion before they step inside. The entryway sets the tone for everything that follows.
Here are three simple areas that make a big difference.

Tip #1: The Door Itself
Start with the door.
If the paint is faded, chipped, or worn, it immediately catches a buyer’s eye. A freshly painted door makes the entire entrance feel updated and cared for. Choose a classic color that complements the home’s exterior. If the exterior of the house is light color, use black.
Also check for:
Weathered trim--patch and paint
Dirty glass panels--wipe down
Loose weather stripping--remove
A clean door sends a clear message: the seller can be trusted.
Tip #2: The Lock and Door Handle
Buyers interact with the lock and handle the moment they enter the home, and they notice right away if something doesn’t feel right.
The lock should turn smoothly and easily without sticking or needing extra force. A sticky or difficult lock can make buyers wonder what else in the home hasn’t been maintained.
The handle should also feel solid and sturdy, not loose or wobbly. When the door hardware feels secure and functions properly, it gives buyers confidence that the home has been well cared for.
Tip #3: The Entry Area
Once the door looks great, step back and look at the entire entry.
The goal is a clean, welcoming space that invites buyers in.
Focus on:
Sweeping the porch or power washing the front step and walkway
Adding a fresh neutral doormat
Trimming plants or bushes near the entrance
Placing a black planter with seasonal flowers
Avoid overcrowding. A few thoughtful touches are all you need.
Small Details, Big Impact
These may seem like small details, but buyers notice everything. The front door is the first physical interaction buyers have with your home.
And when buyers feel good about a home from the start, they are far more likely to picture themselves living there.
